Oh no! Which glass is mine?

04 Dec

You know the feeling. We’ve all done it at least once.

You’ve just sat down to an immaculately dressed table. Everyone around you is talking and laughing. Your eyes widen in horror as you gaze down at the tangle of bowls, plates, glasses and cutlery before you and you panic.

How do you know what is yours and avoid an uncomfortable situation when you realise you have stolen your neighbour’s glass?

Enter the rule designed to save a lot of embarrassment…

Bread on the left, Drink on the right.

b           d

Here is a trick I’ve learnt to help you get it right every time.

Using the tips of your thumb and forefinger, like a “you beaut” or “fantastico, bellissimo, this is so yummy” gesture, form circles with these fingers on each hand. The remaining three fingers in each hand point upwards. Your left hand will form a “b” and your right hand will form a “d”.
Bread (b) is on the left, and drink (d) is on the right.

You have no excuse to look sheepish and squirm in your seat when you realise you’ve stolen your neighbours’ water glass. Ever. Again. You can thank me later.
